Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information I collect through viveknakum.com, why I collect it, how I look after it, and the choices and rights you have. It is written in plain language rather than legal shorthand.
1. Who I am
I am Vivek Nakum, an independent Technical Project Lead and AI-driven development consultant based in Rajkot, Gujarat, India. I am also the founder of The Code Vendor, the delivery team I work with on client projects. For the purposes of data protection law, I am the data controller for information collected through this website.
- Location: Rajkot, Gujarat, India
- Email: contact@viveknakum.com
2. What information I collect
I only collect information you choose to give me, plus limited technical data that is created automatically when you browse.
Information you give me
- Contact enquiries. When you submit the contact form I collect your name, email address and message. For spam and abuse prevention I also record the IP address used to submit the form.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location, referring website, device type and browser, collected through Google Analytics only where you have accepted analytics cookies.
- Essential technical data such as your session identifier and a security token, which are needed for the site and its contact form to work at all.
- Anonymous page counts. The site keeps its own simple tally of page views. This sets no cookie and does not store your IP address or browser user-agent — only the page path, the referring site's domain, your country, your browser and operating system family, whether the device is a phone, and the date, plus a one-way hash whose secret changes daily so the same visitor cannot be recognised from one day to the next. Country is derived from your IP address on my own server, and the address is discarded immediately. See the Cookie Policy for the detail.
I do not ask for, and ask that you do not send, special category information such as health data, or payment card details through this website.
3. How and why I use it
| What I do | Why | Lawful basis (UK/EU GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Reply to your enquiry and discuss a possible project | To answer the question you asked | Legitimate interests, and steps taken at your request before entering a contract |
| Prevent spam and abuse of the contact form | To keep the site usable and secure | Legitimate interests in protecting my systems |
| Measure how the site is used (Google Analytics) | To improve content and performance | Your consent, given through the cookie banner |
| Count page views anonymously on my own server | To see which pages are useful without tracking anyone | Legitimate interests — no cookie is set and no identifying data is stored |
| Keep records of enquiries | To manage my business and meet legal or accounting duties | Legitimate interests, and legal obligation where applicable |
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not use it to build advertising profiles.
I also do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Enquiries are read and answered by me, not by an algorithm.
4. Cookies and analytics
This site uses a small number of cookies. Essential cookies are always active because the site cannot function without them. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager) are only set after you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time.
Before you accept, Google Consent Mode keeps analytics in a restricted cookieless state: no cookies are set and no identifier for you or your device is collected or sent. Only anonymous, aggregated signals are received, which Google uses to estimate overall visitor numbers. Full details are in the Cookie Policy.
5. Who I share information with
I do not sell or rent personal data. I share it only with service providers that help me run the practice, and only as far as they need it:
- Hosting and email providers that store the website data and deliver enquiry notifications to my inbox.
- Google, for Analytics and Tag Manager (subject to your consent), and for the web fonts used on the site.
- The Code Vendor, where your enquiry concerns a project that my delivery team would work on with me.
- Professional advisers or authorities, where I am required to do so by law, or to establish or defend legal claims.
6. International transfers
I am based in India and work with clients around the world, including in the UK, the European Union, the United States and the MENA region. This means your information may be processed outside your home country. Where information is transferred from the UK or the European Economic Area, I rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses used by my service providers.
7. How long I keep information
- Contact enquiries: kept while we are in discussion and for up to 24 months afterwards, so I have context if you come back to me.
- Analytics data: retained according to my Google Analytics configuration, in aggregated form.
When information is no longer needed I delete it or anonymise it.
8. How I protect information
The site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections. Enquiry records are stored on access-controlled systems, and access to the admin area is password protected and limited to me. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but I take these safeguards seriously and review them as the site changes.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
- Access a copy of the information I hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your information where I no longer need it.
- Restrict or object to how I use it, including processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability — receive certain information in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, for anything based on consent such as analytics cookies. This does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, email me at contact@viveknakum.com. I will respond within one month. You will not be charged, and you will not be treated differently for asking.
If you are in the UK or the EEA and are unhappy with my response, you can complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in India, you may raise a grievance with me using the contact details above.
10. Children
This website is aimed at businesses and professionals. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided me with personal information, contact me and I will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy as my services or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If I make a significant change I will make that clear on this page.
12. Grievance Officer
In line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can raise any concern about how I handle your personal data with me directly, acting as Grievance Officer:
- Vivek Nakum, Grievance Officer
- Email: contact@viveknakum.com
- Location: Rajkot, Gujarat, India
I acknowledge grievances within 7 working days and aim to resolve them within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may escalate the matter to the Data Protection Board of India, or to your own supervisory authority if you are in the UK or the EEA.
13. How to contact me
For any question about this policy or your information, email me at contact@viveknakum.com.
